Owl Pellet Fun

Hoo, hoo-hoo, hoo… who knows what the grade ones did on Monday, Dec. 10th? Mrs. Holloway’s class dissected owl pellets! Over the past month we have been learning a lot about owls. We have looked into their characteristics, habitat, life-cycle, physical appearance and today the students finally got to dissect a pellet. The children were excited to investigate the regurgitated remains that the owl couldn’t digest. They were thrilled with their findings, especially when skulls, jaws with teeth intact, beaks, talons and several more bones of various rodents and birds were identified. It was a great way to end our unit on owls! Our class would love to thank Mrs. Avanthay, Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Thomas for helping us dissect the pellets.
