The Week Ahead- Jan 21-25

Good evening and welcome to this week’s edition of “The Week Ahead”.
After another cold snap, we are hoping the weather allows for some outside time at recess and lunch this week. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing so they can enjoy the warmer temperatures and the opportunity to frolic in the snow!!
A huge shout-out to the 17 Grade 6 students in Mrs. Barr’s and Mrs. London’s classes for representing our school so well at the District Spaghetti Bridge-Building contest held last Friday at Robert Ogilvie. We have two teams moving on to the Regional contest in Dawson Creek after placing first and second respectively. Please go to the Bert Ambrose website or FaceBook page to see photos and further information.
Bert Ambrose students were able to participate in a week-long dance residency with Angie Pomeroy, the Dance Lady, last week. It was a great week and culminated with a Family Dance on Thursday evening. If you have any great action shots, please email these to me (lwright@prn.bc.ca) and we can add them to the website.
Basketball is underway and the league games start this week – if your child is participating in Basketball, please check the school calendary on the website for information about games and practices. Thank you to Miss Brekkas for all of her behind-the-scenes organization for our sports program and to the parents and teachers for taking on coaching roles. We appreciate all you do for our students.
Lastly, a few reminders:

  • Interim reports will be coming home for students in classrooms following the existing reporting process UNLESS your child’s teacher has chosen to complete the second interim between Term 2 and Term 3. If this is the case, the teacher will be informing you of this. f your child is in a classroom that is piloting the new program (you will have already been informed of this), then you can expect to receive Points of Progress throughout the year and not at the traditional times related to the existing reporting process.
  • We have MANY students arriving late on a daily basis. Please try to adjust your schedule to allow for the cold weather and snowy conditions so students arrive at school by 8:45 am. This will allow them time to settle into their classrooms and be ready for learning when the second bell goes at 8:51 am. Thank you.
  • The parking lot continues to be a busy place at drop-off and pick-up times. We ask parents to NOT park blocking the path into the parking lot (if you park past the fence, you are in an area that is off-limits for parking). Also, we ask you to not stop in that area to allow your child to hop out, but rather to pull into the parking lot to prevent an interruption to the traffic flow. It is also important to NOT stop along the roadway between the school and the skating rink (behind the staff parking area). This is a road and not a parking lot and you may find yourself receiving a ticket if you continue to park here. Thank you for helping to make drop-off and pick-up times safer for our students and less frustrating for everyone else.
  • We have two Non-Instructional Days coming up … this means students are not in session on Friday, January 25 or Monday, January 28.  Staff will be participating in professional development activities on Friday and looking at curriculum implementation on Monday.
  • Pink Shirt Day orders close at midnight tonight (Sunday). If you were planning to order t-shirts, bracelets, or buttons, please make sure to get your orders in.

Looking forward to a great week with our students!
