The Bert Ambrose Bouldering Club is an afterschool sports program geared towards developing participants’ rock climbing technique, strength, balance, and self-esteem.
Bouldering is a specific discipline within rock climbing that doesn’t use harnesses and ropes but relies on crash mats and relatively short climbing routes to ensure safety. We have an excellent climbing wall at Bert Ambrose, and it’s great to see the students learning on top-notch equipment.
Each week, the students focus on a specific technique or mindset to improve themselves as rock climbers and athletes. Many students see the Bouldering Club as a place where they can challenge themselves and test their limits. As one student commented: “When I was halfway up the route, I felt so tired because it was so hard, but when I finally got to the top — I felt so strong!”
