As part of a nationwide science experiment to determine the effects of extreme conditions on plant growth, students in Mrs. London’s class have been growing tomato plants this term. One set of seeds was exposed to extreme conditions when it traveled by spacecraft beyond the Kármán line (100 km above Earth’s surface). The other set of seeds remained on Earth under normal conditions. We planted the seeds just before Spring Break and have been making weekly observations. They have grown quite a bit in the last four weeks.
